The George Renison Memorial Jamboree with take place at Age UK in Scunthorpe on Saturday 7th October. The jamboree is for teams of four players. Four rounds will be played and the winner will be awarded the George Renison Shield. Entries must be received by Saturday 23rd September. A poster is available to download with further details.
The Lincolnshire Chess Association AGM will take place at Church House in Louth on Sunday 10th September at 3pm. This will be preceded by the Lincolnshire League fixture meeting at 1.30pm. Here are some supporting documents for the meeting:
The proposed changes to the Lincs League rules are in regard to the postponement of fixtures. Please contact John Grasham if there is anything you would like to add to the agenda.
The 2017 County Champion is Chris Dorrington (Grantham) with a score of 4½/5. This the 4th time he has won the title. Full Results
Lincolnshire drew 8-8 against Norfolk in their semi final match but won on board count. The team now progress to the final for the second successive year where they will play Suffolk. Full Results
Nigel Birtwistle won the quickplay with a score of 5/6 and received £100 prize and the Alf Newman Shield. Full Results
The Lincolnshire Championships will be held at the Lindum Business Park Atrium on 15-16 July. There are two sections this time - Open and Under 150. Prizes are available for the top 3 places in each section plus grading prizes. The winner of the Open will receive the Championship Trophy and the winner of the U150 will receive the Quilter Trophy. The competition is open to lincolnshire players past and present. An entry form is available to download.
The minor team had a convincing victory against Essex by a score of 9½-6½ and now progress to the Semi Final to play either Norfolk or Gloucestershire. Full Results
The Alf Newman Memorial Quickplay Chess Tournament will take place on Saturday 3rd June at the Louth Chess Club. The time limit is 25 minutes for each player to complete all their moves. A number of prizes are on offer. An entry form is available to download.
James Irwin (Lincoln) came equal 2nd in the intermediate section with a score of 4/5 and won £50 prize money. Murray Smith (Lincoln) won a grading prize of £15 in the open section with a score of 3/5. The U140 team narrowly lost to Worcestershire by a score of 8½-7½ which leaves them 3rd overall and do not qualify for the national stages. Full Results
The U120 team lost 7-5 to Staffordshire in their final match of the group stage and miss out on securing a place in the ECF stage. Full Results
The minor team beat Leicestershire 9-7 to finish equal first and share the Midlands Team Championship with Worcestershire. They now progress to the national stages. Full Results
Stephen Prior (Grantham) won first place and £150 prize money with 4½/5 at the 46th Hampstead Congress. He had a performance rating of 2220 and gained 17 points to his FIDE rating.
The minor team beat Warwickshire by a score of 9½-6½ to keep alive their hopes of qualifying for the national stages. Full Results
The Lincolnshire County Championships will be held at the Lindum Business Group Atrium (same as last year) on July 15 & 16. There will be two separate sections this time - Open and Under 150. Hopefully this will encourage lower graded players to enter.
The minor team lost 8½-7½ to Worcestershire. Although this was a disappointing result the team did very well to fight back from 7-1 down and make it a close match. Full Results
The U140 team lost 9-7 to Nottinghamshire in another closely fought match. There is still a chance of qualifying for the knockout stages if they can do well in their final match against Worcestershire on 4th March. Full Results
The U140 team beat Derbyshire 9-7 in their opening match of the season. The match was finely balanced throughout and was only decided in the final game when the Derbyshire player ran out of time. Full Results
The U120 team made amends for their earlier defeat in the season by beating Warwickshire with a score of 7½-4½. This puts them back in contention on the leader board. Full Results
The U120 team had a tough opening match against Nottinghamshire and lost 9½-2½. They will be hoping for a better result in their next match against Warwickshire. Full Results
Lincolnshire started the season with a 13-3 win against Nottinghamshire. The team outgraded their opponents on nearly every board so were strong favourites to win the match. Full Results
At the AGM the trophies were presented to the winning teams for the previous season (2015-16). Grimsby won Division 1 and Lincoln won both Division 2 North and Division 2 South. Full Report

Lincolnshire played against Norfolk in the final of the Minor Counties Championship on Saturday 2nd July. The team lost 9-7 to a very solid Norfolk team who deserved their victory. It has been a very successful season with great victories against two strong teams in Essex and Cambridgeshire. The team can feel very proud of what they have achieved. Full Results
The MCCU Congress will be held on 13-14th August in Walsall. It is a 5 round tournament with sections for all levels of ability. The tournament is also part of the ECF Grand Prix and the MCCU Grand Prix. For further information please visit the MCCU Congress website.
