Lincolnshire Chess Association

Midlands Championships 2016

Report from Keith Palmer

Thank you to our teams and their supporters for your participation and super efforts at Nottingham High School on Saturday 27th February when Lincolnshire competed in the Midlands Championships. I think that most of you would agree that the tournament was challenging for our youngsters but also rewarding. Children become aware that there is another level that they can aspire to! The Nottingham teams in particular have a reputation for being of the finest chess playing counties in the country so it was not surprising to find them winning many of their games.

Lincolnshire did have some successes however and it is worth remembering that many counties eligible to enter the championships were unable to field teams so our players deserve much credit for their participation.

A big thank you to our players and their parents and teachers for helping to organise and transport our top 50 chess players from almost every chess playing school in our vast county to the city of Nottingham for this major chess event!
